Mary E Scallen’s Story

“I came to Dr. Zhang for help with my constant discomfort and occasional pain from bulging discs and spinal stenosis. I’m delighted to report that her excellent treatment has significantly reduced both my pain and my discomfort. Dr. Zhang asks me probing questions about my condition at the top of each session, assesses my answers carefully, then explains what she’s going to do and why. Her calm, thoughtful, exacting work has increased the quality of my life. I highly recommend her.” -Oct 04, 2017

Tom’s Story

“I have very flat feet and in my youth wore corrective shoes. In my adult years, I spent a great deal of my life on my foot as a teacher. I developed an acute problem with the tendons in my left foot. The pain in my left foot was always near 10. Since having acupuncture with Dr. Yang for over 3 months, my foot feels much better. The pain now is usually only around 2 at the end of the day. I do not like needles and I was only used to Western medical treatment. I would now recommend Dr. Yang’s acupuncture treatment and his methods.”

William’s Story

“I started acupuncture because of fairly intractable neuropathic pain, which was the after-effect of long-term autoimmune disease. My results have been excellent after a period of visits to the Tao Clinic. My pain is much reduced and most times non-existent. I have been able to resume exercising. My mental well being is vastly improved.”

Alvin’s Story

“I was recommended to the Yang Institute by Dr. Yang’s reputation. I came to the Yang Institute with severe and crippling back and leg pains. I tried epidural injections and many different medications to find relief. The condition was only getting worse. Before I saw Dr. Yang, the pain lasted for a year in duration. I was immobilized by the pain, unable to walk easily, and unable to pursue recreational activities; the pain was excessive and crippling. After receiving weekly acupuncture and herbal treatments, almost immediately I have seen a difference. Overall, in about 4 weeks, the pain lessened, and in about 9 months the pain was almost gone. My experience with acupuncture was spectacular: the elimination of pain and my general health is much better, and physically more sure of myself. I had some other difficulty with the treatment of metastasized Prostate Cancer and the acupuncture treatment was beneficial in that area also.”

Joseph’s Story

“Sunday, November 26, 2006, I had a sneezing fit around noon. After the last sneeze, my back, the lowest region, felt like it was struck by lightning. I had the most intense pain I have ever felt. I went to the floor immediately, and could not move for several minutes. After dealing with constant pain for a few days, I went to the emergency room on Tuesday morning. I could not endure the pain any further. The only thing the hospital was able to do for me was to give me pain medication and a muscle relaxant. I received treatments from my chiropractor but the pain was still there. I came to your office on Wednesday and got an (acupuncture) treatment. After two needles were applied to my right hand, the pain was literally turned off. I believe acupuncture is directly responsible for my quick recovery. I will be sure to spread the word about the miracle of acupuncture.”

Judith’s Story

“I came to the Yang Institute with excruciating pain from sciatica which had not been relieved by other methods that I have tried, which included exercise, physical therapy, and medications. I had six weekly acupuncture treatments and now come every other week. There was some relief immediately and every treatment produced more and more relief. Most importantly, I felt that I was receiving personalized care. The doctor would ask me about my symptoms and plan my treatment around those symptoms. He also answered every question I had so I felt better educated about my condition.I always left the Yang Institute feeling better physically and emotionally. I have taken brochures to my job and share my experience whenever I get a chance. I’m happy to say that one of my co-workers has had a similar experience on my recommendation.”

Norma Kamali and Cosmetic Acupuncture

Norma Kamali and Cosmetic Acupuncture

We’ve had the privilege of knowing Norma Kamali, the famous American fashion designer, for a while now. She co-authored “Facing East: Ancient Health and Beauty Secrets for the Modern Age” with Dr. Jingduan Yang, founder of the Tao Clinic of Acupuncture and the Yang Institute of Integrative Medicine. She is a force of nature, widely known for her vision, entrepreneurial drive, and quest to learn new things, every day.

She also has a reputation for being authentic to her goals and has always exerted full control over how she conducts her personal and business life. When she is excited about something, it always comes from a pure and genuine foundation, influenced by nothing beyond her sensibilities, beliefs and research.

In a recent article in Into The Gloss, she talks about her life and career, including her belief in acupuncture as part of her ongoing skincare regimen (“Norma Kamali, Fashion Designer and Entrepreneur”, May 2019). She has been very public about the fact that she regularly counts on our own Dr. Yang for cosmetic acupuncture as well as Traditional Chinese medicine.

What is Acupuncture and How Does It Work?

Acupuncture is a healing modality of Chinese medicine. For over 2,500 years, acupuncture has been used widely in Asian nations as the primary medicine for relieving pain, treating chronic diseases, and improving general health.

After a thorough Chinese medicine evaluation, an acupuncturist inserts very fine needles into selected acupuncture points, stimulates the Qi, and facilitates Qi movement and balance. This treatment helps to restore biochemical balance and structural integrity to the body.

Acupuncture for Facial Rejuvenation

Cosmetic acupuncture treatment promotes the circulation of energy and blood in the face. It stimulates collagen production for increased muscle tone and elasticity. Therefore, cosmetic acupuncture helps restore radiance and vitality.

It is non-invasive, pain-free, requires no recovery time, and has no side effects or risk of disfigurement or scarring.

Can Acupuncture Change Brain Waves?

Can Acupuncture Change Brain Waves

We used Quantitative Electroencephalography to answer the question, “Can Acupuncture Change Brain Waves?” and the results were impressive. We believe that acupuncture treatment to the human body is like electronic engineering car maintenance. The only difference is that the human energetic system is not as visible as that of an automobile. We are always curious about how acupuncture affects human energy and if we can visualize that impact.

Lately, we decided to map a volunteer’s brain using a technology called Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG)  before and after 20 minutes of acupuncture treatment. We analyzed recordings from that session through an FDA approved analytic software tool that leverages three databases.

As shown in the figures below, the color scheme indicates how far away one’s brain wave is from the normal values in the database. The results are presented into a “map” with the red color indicating excessive activities and the blue color deficient activities.

In the figures below are the brain maps that we derived from this research experiment. On the left side of each map are the results we obtained before acupuncture, while the right half indicates the brain map after acupuncture. Our volunteer is a 28 years old male who consented to use his data for research purposes.

So…Can Acupuncture Change Brain Waves? See for Yourself

Dr. Hasan Asif, a New York City psychiatrist, specializing in QEEG and TMS therapy, found the normalization of brain waves as a result of our acupuncture treatment to be noteworthy.

Dr. Asif said, “we have seen similar changes in all the patients that Dr. Yang and I have tested; it is not a coincidence, it is quite remarkable.“

Tao Helps Local Man Quit Smoking with Acupuncture

Tao Helps Local Man Quit Smoking with Acupuncture

Tao Clinic of Acupuncture recently helped a local man quit smoking with acupuncture. Here is his story:

I started smoking when I was 13 and currently I am 57 years old. I was a heavy smoker and smoked approximately one pack a day. I quit smoking in 1993 with acupuncture and was able to keep smoke free for 9 years. Then the addiction came back. I then tried everything, Chantix, hypnosis. but nothing worked. My health suffered. and I coughed a lot.

On 3/27/2019, I started seeing Dr. Gong at Yang Institute of Integrative Medicine / Tao Clinic of Acupuncture. I saw her 3 times during the first week. She told me she was preparing me for quitting by cleaning my lungs and strengthening my lungs energy. She also gave me ear acupuncture. During the 1st week, I spit up a lot of black stuff. I believe it was a sign that my lungs were being cleansed, going into the 2nd week. On my 5th visit Dr. Gong told me that I was ready to stop smoking. That was 4/3/2019, after this visit I only had a few cigarettes left in my pack, so on my way out of her office I threw the pack cigarettes in the trash. When I got back into my car to drive home, the smell of the smoke in my car made me so nausea that I had to drive with the windows open. I even had to stop at the local car dealership to replace the cabin filter inside the car. The smell of the smoke made me feel nausea. I have been smoke free since. It’s been 4 weeks.

Now I feel better, my breathing score improved from 1000 ml to over 2500 ml. I can walk 30 minutes.

Regards,

John

What to Expect During an Acupuncture Treatment

What to expect during an acupuncture treatment

Each person who performs acupuncture has a unique style, often blending aspects of Eastern and Western approaches to medicine. To determine the type of acupuncture treatment that will help you the most, your practitioner may ask you about your symptoms, behaviors and lifestyle.

Your Acupuncturist may also closely examine:

  •  The parts of your body that are painful
  •  The shape, coating and color of your tongue
  •  The color of your face
  •  The strength, rhythm and quality of the pulse in your wrist

This initial evaluation and treatment may take up to 60 minutes. Subsequent appointments usually take about a half-hour. A common treatment plan for a single complaint would typically involve one or two treatments a week. The number of treatments will depend on the condition being treated and its severity. In general, it’s common to receive six to eight treatments.

During the procedure

Acupuncture points are situated in all areas of the body. Sometimes the appropriate points are far removed from the area of your pain. Your acupuncture practitioner will tell you the general site of the planned treatment and whether you need to remove any clothing. A gown, towel or sheet will be provided. You lie on a padded table for the treatment, which involves:

Needle insertion. Acupuncture needles are inserted to various depths at strategic points on your body. The needles are very thin, so insertion usually causes little discomfort. People often don’t feel them inserted at all. Between five and 20 needles are used in a typical treatment. You may feel a mild aching sensation when a needle reaches the correct depth.

Needle manipulation. Your practitioner may gently move or twirl the needles after placement or apply heat or mild electrical pulses to the needles.

Needle removal. In most cases, the needles remain in place for 10 to 20 minutes while you lie still and relax. There is usually no discomfort when the needles are removed.

After the procedure

Some people feel relaxed and others feel energized after an acupuncture treatment. Everyone responds differently to acupuncture.
